Odisha CM Apologizes After Puri Stampede Kills 3, Vows Justice and Safety Reforms

A tragic stampede during the famous Rath Yatra near the Jagannath temple in Puri has left the whole state of Odisha in shock. The unfortunate incident led to the death of 3 devotees and injured around 50 people.

CM Mohan Charan Majhi Says Sorry to Devotees

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has publicly apologized to Lord Jagannath’s devotees in Odisha and across the world. He expressed deep sorrow and pain over the loss of lives and the injuries caused. He asked for forgiveness and promised to take full responsibility.

Full Investigation Promised

The Chief Minister has ordered a complete and fair investigation to find out what caused the stampede. The aim is to figure out if there were any problems in the security or crowd control arrangements.

The investigation will include:

  • Checking CCTV footage and talking to witnesses.
  • Reviewing the safety measures and emergency response.
  • Finding ways to improve the handling of such large crowds in the future.

Action Against Those at Fault

CM Majhi has clearly said that anyone found guilty of negligence or failure in duty will face strict punishment. The government wants to make sure such mistakes are not repeated.

Plans for Safer Rath Yatras in the Future

To prevent such tragedies in the future, the government plans to:

  • Use better crowd control systems and trained staff.
  • Improve facilities for pilgrims.
  • Ensure better coordination between police, temple officials, and other departments.
