Pakistan’s government has announced it will pay Rs 14 crore as compensation to Masood Azhar, a terrorist leader designated by the United Nations. Masood Azhar is the head of the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). This compensation is because about 14 of his family members were killed in a recent airstrike by the Indian military.

Compensation Announcement by Pakistan’s Prime Minister
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, said the government will give Rs 1 crore to the family of each person who died in the strike. The strike was part of India’s Operation Sindoor and targeted terrorist camps in Bahawalpur, which is known to be an important area for JeM. The JeM headquarters is located in a mosque called Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah, also known as the Usman-o-Ali campus, in that city.
Reports say that among those who died were Masood Azhar’s elder sister and her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children from his extended family. Since 14 family members died, Masood Azhar could receive Rs 14 crore in total (Rs 1 crore for each person).

Rebuilding Houses
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also promised to rebuild the houses destroyed in the strikes. However, this promise has raised doubts because India has said its strikes on May 7 were carefully planned to only hit terrorist camps and did not affect any civilian areas.
