Pakistan and Russia have agreed to build a big road and railway network to connect South Asia with Central Asia and Russia. This project will help landlocked countries (those without access to the sea) reach warm-water ports, making trade easier and faster.
This decision was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and Russia’s Deputy Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin. They met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference in Tianjin, China.

The goal is to make Pakistan a key trade route in the region. To support this, Pakistan is upgrading its transport system with better technology like digital systems, smooth highways without toll barriers, mandatory electronic tags for vehicles, and security through CCTV cameras. These changes are expected to speed up trade across borders and improve connections between countries.
Russia has shown strong support for this partnership. Deputy Minister Nikitin said Russia is fully committed to working with Pakistan on transport and infrastructure projects to improve regional trade.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had a phone call and agreed to finalize a plan for this railway.
This railway project will connect Pakistan to Central Asia through Afghanistan and will improve trade and connectivity in the region.
