There wasn’t a direct fight between U.S. Vice President JD Vance and the new pope, Robert Prevost (now Pope Leo XIV), but some online posts have caused a stir. Before becoming pope, Prevost shared posts on social media that criticized JD Vance and the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

When Robert Prevost was elected as the first American pope, many Trump supporters celebrated. They even credited a fake AI-generated image of Trump as the pope for “manifesting” this event. However, they quickly became upset when old posts from Prevost’s social media resurfaced, showing that he didn’t support MAGA views.

What Did the Pope Share?
- In February, Prevost reposted an article titled “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”
- In April, after Trump met with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, Prevost reposted a comment saying: “Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed?”
It’s not confirmed whether Prevost personally managed the account that shared these posts.
Reactions from Trump Supporters
Trump ally Laura Loomer criticized Pope Leo XIV harshly on social media. She called him:
- “Anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open borders, and a Marxist like Pope Francis.”
- “Another woke, open borders pope. Gross.”
- She also claimed he retweeted a post about George Floyd that said: “May all hatred, violence and prejudice be eradicated.” Loomer mocked this, linking it to Floyd’s death and calling the pope a “Marxist.”
Right-wing activist Charlie Kirk also questioned the pope’s intentions. He asked if Pope Leo XIV was a true pro-life Republican from Chicago or just another globalist sent to oppose Trump.
Summary
While there hasn’t been a direct argument, old social media posts by the new pope have led to backlash from MAGA supporters. They believe Pope Leo XIV doesn’t align with their values and have expressed strong criticism online.
