Preity Zinta’s joy knew no bounds on Monday night as Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets, securing a top-two finish in the IPL points table for the first time in 11 years.
At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, PBKS chased down a target of 185 with confidence and flair. Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis led the charge, both smashing fifties and building a strong partnership that left MI scrambling.

For fans, this wasn’t just another win. This was redemption. PBKS, often seen as underachievers despite a loyal fanbase, finally gave their supporters—including co-owner Preity Zinta—a reason to cheer like never before.
Her jubilant reaction, captured on camera and shared widely online, has since gone viral. It was a moment of pure emotion—and proof that this win meant everything.

MI, on the other hand, had their usual firepower but lacked consistency. Suryakumar Yadav’s gritty 50 and a late blitz from Naman Dhir helped MI reach 184/6.
But PBKS bowlers, especially Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, and Vijaykumar Vyshak, did well to keep MI from running away with it.
When PBKS came to bat, it was all business. Prabhsimran Singh fell early to Jasprit Bumrah, but Arya and Inglis took control.
Inglis scored his first IPL half-century off 30 balls. Arya, calm and composed, matched him stroke for stroke. They added 100 runs for the second wicket, effectively sealing MI’s fate.
By the time Shreyas Iyer smashed a six in the 19th over to seal the win, PBKS fans everywhere were already celebrating.
Zinta, who’s stayed fiercely loyal to the franchise, summed up the emotion of the night in her beaming smile and cheers from the stands.
For context, PBKS haven’t finished in the top two since 2014. That season, they reached the final but lost. The hope now? Maybe this time they go one better.
This victory means PBKS will head into Qualifier 1—a massive advantage, as it gives them two shots at reaching the final. MI, meanwhile, will have to take the harder route through the Eliminator.
In the bigger picture, this is a reminder that IPL, for all its glitz, still rewards resilience. PBKS kept believing—and Monday night, they rewrote their story.
As for Preity Zinta—she’s no longer just the emotional face of a struggling team. Today, she’s the proud co-owner of a winning side. And it shows.
