President Droupadi Murmu will travel to Vatican City to attend the state funeral of Pope Francis. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that she will make a two-day visit from April 25 to April 26, 2025.

President Murmu will represent the people and government of India at the funeral and express condolences. Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday at the age of 88, was the first non-European Pope in nearly 1,300 years.
