Priya Sachdev Kapur, wife of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, is now in the middle of a high-stakes power struggle. After her husband’s sudden death, all eyes are on her as she stands at the center of a ₹30,000 crore empire.
Born in Delhi, Priya is the daughter of automobile dealer Ashok Sachdev. She studied mathematics and business management at University College London. She also spent time studying at UCLA.
In her early years, Priya worked as a model. She even made a short appearance in the Bollywood movie Neal ‘n’ Nikki in 2005. But her career soon shifted towards finance and business.
She started working in mergers and acquisitions at Credit Suisse First Boston in London. Later, she came back to India. Here, she took leadership roles in auto retail, insurance, luxury fashion, and online shopping. She launched TSG International and co-founded Rock N Shop, one of India’s first luxury e-commerce platforms.
Today, Priya Sachdev Kapur is the director at Aureus Investment and a non-executive director at Sona Comstar. She also manages Aureus Polo, a team started by her husband.
Priya’s personal life has always been in the public eye. She was first married to US-based hotelier Vikram Chatwal. In a recent interview in May 2025, Priya shared that their marriage was full of emotional pain. She said she knew during her pregnancy that things were not right. After years of trying, she left for her and her daughter’s well-being. Their divorce ended in 2011 after a tough custody battle.
In 2017, she married Sunjay Kapur, who was earlier married to Bollywood actress Karishma Kapoor. Priya and Sunjay have a son together, Azarias. On June 12, 2025, Sunjay Kapur passed away due to a heart attack while playing polo in England.
Now, things have taken a serious turn.
Just before the Sona Group’s annual meeting, Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, wrote a letter to the company’s board. In it, she claimed she was forced to sign papers without understanding them. She also said some people—likely referring to Priya—were wrongly claiming to represent the Kapur family.
This has opened up a big fight over control of the Sona empire. With so much money and power involved, the case is being watched closely.
