US President Donald Trump didn’t hold back. He called Vladimir Putin “absolutely crazy” after Russia launched one of the largest airstrikes on Ukraine since the war began. Trump criticized the attacks as needless violence that is killing many innocent people.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine for no reason whatsoever.” This sharp rebuke is a big deal because Trump has often praised Putin in the past.

I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles…

The violence is escalating at a time when both sides completed a massive prisoner swap. Yet Russia’s attacks killed several civilians, including children aged 8, 12, and 17, in the Zhytomyr region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attacks brutal and said, “Without truly strong pressure on the Russian leadership, this brutality cannot be stopped.”
Trump also said Russia’s aim is total control over Ukraine. He said, “I’ve always said that he wants all of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right.”
But if Putin tries that, Trump predicts it will backfire on Russia.

Interestingly, Trump also criticized Ukraine’s leader, Zelensky. He said, “Everything out of his mouth causes problems. I don’t like it, and it better stop.” That mix of criticism on both sides shows how complicated this conflict has become.
The former US President insists this war would never have started if he had been in charge. “This is Zelensky’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s war, not mine,” Trump said, calling his role more like a firefighter trying to put out “big and ugly fires.”
Trump confirmed he is “absolutely” thinking about increasing sanctions on Russia. Sanctions aim to pressure Moscow to stop the violence, but so far, Putin shows no signs of backing down. Instead, Putin recently suggested working on a peace memorandum but gave no promises to pause the fighting.
This situation keeps the world on edge. As Trump puts it bluntly: Putin is absolutely crazy, and his actions are leading to more death and destruction.
