
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Congress leaders paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 34th death anniversary.
PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “On his death anniversary today, I pay my tributes to our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.”

Congress leaders also visited Veer Bhoomi, Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial in Delhi, to pay their respects. Those present included his son Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and party leader Sachin Pilot.
Rajiv Gandhi was India’s Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989. He led the last Congress government with a full majority in Parliament.
He became Prime Minister at the age of 40, after his mother, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated in 1984. He was the youngest Prime Minister in India’s history.
Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a bomb blast by the LTTE, a terrorist group from Sri Lanka, on May 21, 1991, while he was campaigning in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
Today, his son Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
