This was Pant’s second hundred in a row. He had also scored 118* in the IPL recently against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who went on to win the tournament.
Pant Breaks Dhoni’s Record
With this century, Rishabh Pant has now scored more hundreds (7) in Test matches than former India captain MS Dhoni, who had 6 centuries. Pant also completed 3,000 Test runs during this innings.
Here’s how Indian wicketkeeper-batters compare in Test hundreds:
- Rishabh Pant – 7 hundreds in 44 matches (average: nearly 44)
- MS Dhoni – 6 hundreds in 90 matches (average: 38.09)
- Wriddhiman Saha – 2 hundreds
- Syed Kirmani & Farokh Engineer – 2 each
- Nayan Mongia – 1 hundred
Pant’s strong performance is being seen as the beginning of a new era for Indian cricket, with young players leading the charge.
