Rishabh Pant and the entire Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team have been penalised by the BCCI for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct on slow over-rates.
The fine came after their recent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

This was LSG’s third slow over-rate offence of the IPL 2025 season. Because of this, Rishabh Pant, the LSG captain, was fined ₹30 lakh. The other playing XI members, including the Impact Player, were each fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever was less.
But what does this penalty mean for the average cricket fan? Well, for starters, it highlights the growing pressure on teams to maintain pace in the fast-paced IPL format. Slow over-rates not only delay the game but also reflect on the team’s discipline and strategy under pressure.

For LSG fans, it’s another layer of frustration, coming off a disappointing season.
The season itself ended on a sour note for Lucknow Super Giants. After a mixed run—winning five of their first eight matches—they could only manage one win in the last six games.
This poor form officially knocked them out of playoff contention.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrated a memorable six-wicket win in that final game. Stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma starred with an incredible innings, helping RCB chase down a big target.
This chase was the third-highest successful run chase in IPL history and the highest total ever chased at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.

RCB’s 107-run unbeaten partnership between Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma turned the game on its head.
With this win, RCB secured the second spot on the points table and a playoff match against Punjab Kings.
So, while LSG faces fines and a missed playoff, RCB fans are already gearing up for the next challenge. For cricket lovers, the drama off the field sometimes matches the excitement on it.
Here’s a quick reminder: slow over-rates can cost more than just fines. They can disrupt team momentum and cause headaches for captains trying to manage tight schedules. As the IPL heats up, expect the BCCI to keep a sharp eye on this.
