Rishabh Pant, India’s star wicketkeeper, suffered another painful injury during the first day of the fourth Test against England in Manchester on Wednesday. Already nursing a finger injury from the previous match, Pant was hit on his right foot while trying a reverse sweep shot against England’s Chris Woakes.

The ball struck him hard on his boot in the 68th over. Pant immediately fell to the ground in pain and couldn’t stand up. Physios rushed in, but he was unable to walk. A golf cart had to be brought in to take him off the field. He retired hurt after scoring 37 runs from 48 balls.

Pant had earlier injured his left index finger during the third Test at Lord’s, which stopped him from keeping wickets. Dhruv Jurel had replaced him behind the stumps in that match and may need to do the same again if Pant isn’t fit for the rest of the game.
According to a report from RevSportz, team captain Shubman Gill quickly visited the medical centre to check on Pant.

Before the injury, Pant and young batsman Sai Sudharsan had added a solid 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Sudharsan, playing only his second Test, scored his first-ever Test fifty, helping India keep the runs flowing.
Earlier in the innings, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul gave India a great start with a 94-run opening stand. Jaiswal made 58 before getting out to Liam Dawson, while Rahul was bowled by Woakes. Captain Gill was dismissed for 12 by England skipper Ben Stokes, leaving India at 140/3 before Pant and Sudharsan took over.
The team is now waiting for updates on Pant’s condition as they hope for his quick recovery.
