Russia Launches Large-Scale Missile and Drone Strikes on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

Russia launched a major missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s energy and gas facilities on Friday, according to Ukrainian officials.

“The energy and gas infrastructure in different parts of Ukraine is being hit again by missiles and drones,” said Ukraine’s Energy Minister German Galushchenko.

He added that Russia is trying to harm regular Ukrainians by attacking power and gas facilities. Their goal is to leave people without electricity and heating, causing as much damage as possible.

This attack comes as leaders of the European Union (EU) met to discuss strengthening their defense, especially since they are worried the U.S. may reduce its support for Ukraine. Meanwhile, the U.S. said it has restarted talks with Ukraine to negotiate a possible ceasefire with Russia.

A Russian attack on civilian buildings in Kharkiv injured four people, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov. One of the injured was a woman who was rescued from the rubble and is receiving medical treatment.

“A fire started at the site of the attack, and a nearby apartment building was also damaged,” the mayor said. People living there are being evacuated for safety.

Kharkiv’s Governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said another Russian strike hit a private company in the city, setting cars on fire.

“A 65-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man were taken to the hospital,” he said.

In the Odesa region, Ukraine’s emergency services reported that an attack damaged important infrastructure late Thursday. However, no one was injured in that strike.
