A tragic train accident happened late Saturday in Russia’s Bryansk region, where a passenger train went off the tracks after a bridge suddenly collapsed. At least 7 people lost their lives, and around 30 others were injured.
The accident took place in Bryansk, a region that borders Ukraine and has been facing tensions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. According to Russian railway officials, the bridge was damaged due to what they called “illegal interference” with transport systems.

The country’s road agency, Rosavtodor, said the bridge was built over the railway tracks. When it collapsed, large pieces of concrete fell directly onto the train’s path, causing it to derail.
Photos and videos shared by the government and on social media showed the train’s carriages badly damaged and lying in pieces among the debris. Some videos even showed vehicles narrowly escaping the bridge collapse.
Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed the number of dead and injured. He also mentioned that two of the injured were children. “We are doing everything we can to help the victims,” he said, adding that emergency teams are working hard at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collapse.
