SpaceX is preparing for an exciting space mission that will send private astronauts on a journey directly over Earth’s polar regions for the first time. The launch is scheduled for Monday night at 9:46 PM (Eastern Time) from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
About the Mission
The mission is called Fram2, named after a famous Norwegian ship used for Arctic and Antarctic explorations in the 19th century. The astronauts will spend several days in space, conducting experiments such as taking the first-ever X-ray in space and growing mushrooms in microgravity. These experiments will help scientists prepare for future long-term space travel, including missions to Mars.

Meet the Crew
The mission is led by Chun Wang, a Maltese adventurer and co-founder of two cryptocurrency companies, f2pool and skatefish. He carefully selected three other crew members for the mission:
- Jannicke Mikkelsen (Norway) – Vehicle Commander and film director
- Rabea Rogge (Germany) – Mission Pilot and robotics researcher
- Eric Philps (Australia) – Mission Specialist and medical officer, also a polar explorer
The team trained for eight months to prepare for their time in space. Their training included a survival expedition in Alaska, which helped them practice living together in extreme conditions.

A Unique Spaceflight
Unlike previous space missions, this one will fly over Earth’s polar regions, an area that astronauts usually don’t travel over. Even the Apollo Moon missions didn’t take this route.
After spending about four days in space, the astronauts will return to Earth and try to exit their spacecraft without extra medical help. This will help scientists study how astronauts’ bodies react after space travel.
SpaceX and Private Space Missions
SpaceX has already launched five private astronaut missions. Some of these missions went to the International Space Station (ISS), while others remained in Earth’s orbit. Notable past missions include:
- Inspiration4 (2021) – The first fully private space mission
- Polaris Dawn – Featured the first-ever spacewalk by private astronauts
Both of these missions were funded by billionaire Jared Isaacman, a close associate of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Isaacman, who has been nominated by former U.S. President Donald Trump as the next NASA administrator, has played a major role in advancing private space travel.
