Helsing, a Munich-based AI defense startup, just raised a staggering €600 million ($692M) in fresh funding. The round was led by Prima Materia, the investment firm of Spotify founder Daniel Ek. This bold move catapults Helsing’s value to a whopping €12 billion ($13.8B)—putting it among Europe’s most valuable private tech companies.

But this isn’t Ek’s first bet on Helsing. He backed them back in 2021 with €100M. Clearly, he sees something others missed.

Helsing Is Not Just Software Anymore

Helsing started as an AI firm building software for defense. But it has evolved—fast.

Now, it’s building serious hardware:

  • Strike drones
  • Autonomous submarines
  • And its powerful battlefield AI platforms

At its core, Helsing’s tech fuses live data from sensors, radars, and weapons. Then it uses AI to map the battlefield in real time. Soldiers get fast, clear insights—even under blackout conditions.

Meet HX-2: Swarm-Ready, Battle-Tested

Their newest creation? The HX-2 drone.

It flies in coordinated swarms and keeps going even when communication lines are cut. That’s game-changing.

It’s part of a larger trend: defense is going autonomous and software-driven. Think Anduril in the US. Think Shield AI. Helsing is Europe’s answer—and it’s scaling fast.

Why Daniel Ek’s Bet Matters

This isn’t just another tech investment. It’s a statement.

Ek is saying: Europe can’t sit on the sidelines anymore. The future of defense isn’t just in Silicon Valley. It’s in Stockholm, Munich, and beyond.

And Europe’s tech elite? They’re finally stepping into the game.

Ethical AI, But Built for War

Helsing says it’s committed to ethical AI. That’s important, especially when the product is war-ready software.

And it’s not all theory—NATO countries are already signing deals.

If you thought defense tech was only for governments, think again. Helsing shows how private startups are now shaping the battlefield.

Europe’s tech giants are no longer just building music apps. They’re building the future of defense. And Helsing is leading the charge.
