As spring arrives, any protection from your previous COVID-19 vaccine may start to weaken. COVID-19 can still be dangerous, especially for older adults and people with weak immune systems.
To help protect those most at risk, the NHS is offering a free COVID-19 vaccine this spring. This was previously called the ‘Spring Booster.’ The vaccine has saved many lives, reduced hospital visits, and allowed us to live without fear or restrictions.

Why Get the Spring COVID-19 Vaccine?
Data from last year’s spring vaccination program shows that those who received the vaccine were 45% less likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 compared to those who were not vaccinated.
Who Can Get the Spring COVID-19 Vaccine?
The eligibility criteria remain the same as in previous years, with some additions for people with weakened immune systems. You can get the vaccine if you are:
- 75 years or older (or turning 75 before June 17, 2025)
- Living in a care home for older adults
- Aged 6 months or older and have a weakened immune system
These rules apply across the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland).

- Organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplant recipients
- Long-term steroid treatment (over a month)
- HIV
- Certain immunosuppressive treatments, including chemotherapy or radiotherapy
- Some blood cancers like leukaemia and lymphoma
- Genetic conditions affecting the immune system

When to Get Your Vaccine
It’s usually best to get your spring vaccine about six months after your last dose, but you can get it as soon as three months after. Even if you haven’t had a COVID-19 vaccine before, you can still get this one if you’re eligible. The program will close on June 17, 2025, so make sure to book before then.
