Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away on Thursday in England during a polo match. He was 53 years old. Reports say he may have suffered a heart attack after accidentally swallowing a bee, though this has not been officially confirmed. His company, Sona Comstar, mentioned a heart attack as the cause of death in a public statement.
Sunjay and Karisma got married in 2003. They had two children — a daughter, Samaira, and a son, Kiaan. However, their relationship didn’t last. They separated after the birth of their second child and officially got divorced in 2016.

According to an old post, during the divorce settlement, Sunjay bought bonds worth ₹14 crore for his children. These bonds provided ₹10 lakh per month in interest. Karisma was given full custody of the kids, while Sunjay had visiting rights. He also gave her a family-owned house in Mumbai that belonged to his father.
At one point, Karisma had filed an FIR (police complaint) against Sunjay and his family, but it was later dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Over the years, their relationship seemed to have improved. In 2023, Sunjay even posted a family picture from daughter Samaira’s 18th birthday with Karisma and his second wife, Priya Sachdev.
Sunjay had been married three times — first to designer Nandita Mahtani, then to Karisma, and later to Priya Sachdev in 2017. With Priya, he had a son named Azarius. She also has a daughter, Safira, from her previous marriage to Vikram Chatwal.
After news of Sunjay’s passing, Karisma received support from her family and friends including her sister Kareena Kapoor, brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan, and close friend Malaika Arora.
