The Tamil Nadu government has banned the use of mayonnaise made with raw eggs for one year, starting from May 8, 2025. This decision was made by the Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration to protect people from the risk of food poisoning.
The ban applies to making, storing, and selling raw egg mayonnaise anywhere in Tamil Nadu. It is based on a rule under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

According to the official order, mayonnaise made with raw eggs is considered unsafe because it can easily get contaminated with harmful bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli. These bacteria can cause serious health issues such as diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, and nausea, especially if the mayo is not kept at the right temperature.
