Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of India’s biggest IT companies, has delayed the joining of around 600 experienced professionals who were selected as lateral hires. These candidates received a message saying their joining was postponed indefinitely, without giving any new date.
The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has written a letter to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya asking for help. They highlighted the stress this situation is causing to the affected professionals—both financially and mentally.
What’s the Problem?
These professionals had resigned from their earlier jobs after receiving offer letters from TCS and were waiting to join on the mentioned dates. But when they arrived at TCS to start work, they were told there would be a delay—with no further updates since then.
The affected candidates are from cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi, and have 2 to 18 years of work experience.
Many of them are now jobless, struggling to pay their EMIs, rent, and daily expenses, and are under serious emotional stress.
NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja said, “We’re receiving daily calls and emails from people who feel helpless and betrayed.”
This issue comes after earlier complaints from TCS employees about a new bench policy where employees without projects for more than 35 days could face consequences.

What TCS Said
TCS responded by saying that they will honour all job offers made to both freshers and experienced candidates.
They explained that joining dates may change depending on business needs, but they are staying in touch with the affected candidates and will onboard them when possible.
What NITES is Demanding
NITES has asked the Labour Ministry to take action and make TCS:
- Share fixed timelines for joining.
- Offer financial compensation for the delay.
- Provide mental health support through TCS’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
- Consider alternative roles for the affected candidates.
