Tesla has recently sent out emails to some of its early reservation holders in India, suggesting that the company might soon launch its electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.
According to a report, Tesla has started refunding deposits to people who had reserved their cars years ago, showing that the company could be getting ready to debut in India. Some reservation holders had paid deposits for a Tesla Model 3 as far back as 2016, before the company refreshed the vehicle’s design last year.

In the emails, Tesla states, “We would like to return your reservation fee for the time being. When we finalize our offerings in India, we will reach out to you again. We hope to see you back with us once we are ready to launch and deliver in your country.”

The launch of Tesla in India is seen as very important because India is the third-largest car market in the world. Thousands of people in India work in car and parts manufacturing. However, talks between Tesla and the Indian government have been delayed several times, mainly due to disagreements over high import duties on foreign-made vehicles.
While no official date has been set for the launch, there are several signs that Tesla is getting closer to bringing its cars to India. Just last weekend, a Tesla Model Y was spotted being tested on Indian roads, marking the second time a Tesla car has been seen in India recently. The company has also started the process of getting its cars certified in India and has picked locations for two stores in Mumbai and New Delhi.
