Gopika Govind's Journey: First Tribal Air Hostess from Kerala Beats All Odds

“When you really want something, the whole universe helps you achieve it.” This famous quote from Paulo Coelho’s book The Alchemist fits perfectly with the inspiring story of Gopika Govind, the first tribal air hostess from Kerala.

Gopika comes from a small tribal colony called Kavunkudi near Alakkode in Kerala. Her parents, P. Govindan and V.G., worked hard every day as daily wage workers. Life was not easy, and money was always a problem. But even as a child, Gopika had a big dream — to become an air hostess.

Because of financial difficulties, Gopika chose a more affordable path and studied BSc Chemistry. She got a job after college, but one day she saw a photo in a newspaper of air hostesses in uniform. That moment reminded her of her childhood dream.

Determined to make it happen, she found a government-supported aviation course. She joined Dream Sky Aviation Training Academy in Kalpetta, Wayanad, for a one-year diploma. Even before finishing the course, she started applying for cabin crew jobs. Though she failed the first interview, she didn’t give up. On her second try, she got selected.

After three months of training, Gopika flew her first flight as a cabin crew member from Kannur to the Gulf. It was a proud moment — not just for her, but for every girl who dreams big despite tough circumstances. She made history by becoming the first tribal air hostess from Kerala.

Gopika’s message to other young girls is simple but powerful:
“If you have a dream, go after it without fear. Believe in yourself. Don’t tell everyone about your goals — let your success speak for you.”

Her journey proves that with determination and hard work, nothing is impossible. Truly, the sky is the limit for Gopika Govind, the trailblazing tribal air hostess from Kerala.
