US President Donald Trump has decided to shorten the 50-day deadline he gave to Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine.

Speaking in Scotland during a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said, “I’m very disappointed in President Putin. So, I’m reducing the 50-day deadline I gave him to a shorter one.”
His strong statement had an immediate impact. Russia’s main stock market index (MOEX) dropped by 0.93% after Trump’s comments.
Ukraine welcomed Trump’s message. Ukrainian presidential adviser Andriy Yermak wrote on social media: “Thanks to President Trump for sending a clear message of peace through strength.” He added, “When America leads with strength, others think twice.”

Trump also said he already had an idea of what would happen next, hinting that he doesn’t expect Putin to negotiate or agree to a ceasefire.
Earlier this month, Trump had given Russia 50 days to end the war and warned of serious economic penalties if it didn’t. He also said he would put 100% tariffs on countries buying Russian products like oil, as such purchases help support Russia’s economy despite international sanctions.
Even after Trump’s warning, Russia has continued to attack Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones.

In response, NATO countries are stepping up support for Ukraine. Germany is working with the US and other allies to send more Patriot air defense systems to help Ukraine protect its cities.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has said air defense is one of the country’s biggest needs as Russia’s attacks continue.
