He said he spoke with both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Pakistani army chief and that his intervention prevented a serious conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries. Trump praised Modi as a “fantastic man” and expressed his affection for Pakistan, stating that the Pakistani army chief played a major role in ending the tension.
However, Prime Minister Modi has denied Trump’s claims. The two leaders recently spoke over the phone for about 35 minutes in a call initiated by Trump. During the conversation, Modi briefed Trump on Operation Sindoor and clearly stated that India now considers terrorism as an actual war, not just a proxy war.
Trump offered his condolences for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, and reaffirmed U.S. support for India’s fight against terrorism. According to India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Pakistan itself had requested the ceasefire deal after Operation Sindoor. The phone call marked the first conversation between the two leaders since the agreement.
