Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, has been banned in Turkey after it reportedly made offensive comments about the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his late mother, and even Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey.

The ban was ordered by a Turkish criminal court, following public complaints about Grok’s responses on the X platform (formerly Twitter). According to the news agency PTI, Grok—developed by Musk’s company xAI—gave politically incorrect and vulgar replies to users’ questions. These responses caused outrage among citizens, who said the content was insulting and harmful to public order.

As a result, the court asked Turkey’s telecommunications authority to block access to Grok across the country under its internet law.
What Did Twitter Say?
In response to the controversy, the X platform said it was aware of the offensive content and took immediate action to remove it. A spokesperson from xAI mentioned that they are working on improving Grok by banning hate speech and making the chatbot more truth-focused. The company also thanked users for helping them quickly identify and fix problems with the chatbot’s behavior.
