A Reddit post by a Bengaluru resident has gone viral for showing the big difference between two parts of Indiranagar — one of the city’s most popular areas.
In the post, the writer talks about the shiny side of Indiranagar, filled with stylish cafés, fancy apartments, and buzzing pubs. People like tech founders and brand managers enjoy ₹400 cups of coffee in cafés with hard-to-pronounce names. At night, the area’s pubs light up with neon signs and packed crowds. Renting a 2BHK flat in this part of town can cost around ₹1 lakh per month.

But just a few narrow lanes away, there’s another side to Indiranagar — one that most people don’t see. This part is home to domestic workers, barbers, drivers, waiters, and delivery people. These workers keep the fancy part of Indiranagar running smoothly, yet they live in small rooms with tin roofs, shared toilets, and often have no steady water supply.
The post says, “There are two Indiranagars. One lives in luxury. The other lives in the shadows of it. They share a PIN code. But not a life.” The two groups see each other at traffic signals and service entrances, but rarely interact. Still, the luxury life couldn’t exist without the hardworking people behind the scenes.
The post has touched many people online. One user commented, “This is the story of almost every city in India. We privileged people enjoy this setup. Startups and films have even profited from it.” Another said, “It’s sad but true. The least we can do is be kind, say thank you, and not complain about small things like service charges.”
The post has opened up important conversations about the silent workers who make city life smooth, yet often remain unnoticed.
