Moscow Under Fire: 21 Million Stay Calm in Ukraine’s Biggest Drone Attack

The Biggest Drone Attack on Moscow: A New Escalation in the Ukraine- Russia War

In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukraine launched its largest drone attack on Moscow, marking a significant moment in the three-year war. This attack not only caused casualties but also disrupted daily life in the Russian capital.

The Dawn Attack

The attack began at dawn, coinciding with U.S. officials meeting a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia to discuss peace efforts. Despite these talks, the war on the ground intensified. Russian officials reported that 337 drones were downed, with 91 over Moscow and 126 over the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have been retreating.

Casualties and Damage

The attack resulted in the deaths of two workers at a meat warehouse and injured 18 others, including three children. Residential areas were also hit, with images showing wrecked apartments and blown-out windows. Despite the destruction, Moscow residents carried on with their daily routines, showing resilience in the face of adversity.

Airport Shutdowns and Air Defenses

Moscow’s four major airports experienced temporary shutdowns, with flights diverted to other cities. Russia has developed advanced electronic defenses and air systems to protect key installations, but the sheer number of drones posed a significant challenge.

The War of Drones

This conflict has seen both sides increasingly rely on drones, turning commercial models into deadly weapons. The fear of drone strikes is palpable among soldiers, with both sides using footage of attacks for propaganda. The war has combined traditional trench warfare with modern drone technology, creating a unique and deadly battlefield.

Calls for Retaliation

In response to the attack, some Russian lawmakers have suggested using hypersonic missiles against Ukraine. Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov, head of parliament’s defense committee, hinted at the possibility of a strong retaliation, though the final decision rests with President Vladimir Putin.

As the war continues to evolve, the use of drones represents a new chapter in military strategy. The recent attack on Moscow underscores the ongoing intensity of the conflict and the challenges both sides face in this protracted war.
