A UP man was arrested from Moradabad on Saturday for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), according to the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The accused, Shehzad from Rampur district, had been under watch for months and is now at the center of a growing national security concern.

But what does this mean for the average Indian?
It means our internal threats no longer wear uniforms—they blend in, run shops, and even travel under the radar. When enemies stop invading from the border and start renting flats next door, it’s time to take things seriously.

Smuggling, Spying, and Shadowy Deals

The UP man wasn’t just sneaking in foreign spices or cheap clothes. Shehzad was running a well-oiled smuggling racket under the ISI’s nose, shipping cosmetics, garments, and other goods across the India-Pakistan border. But behind the cartons of soap and shirts lay something far more dangerous—secrets.

Officials say he used the trade routes to cover up his real work: passing confidential Indian security information to Pakistan’s intelligence services. According to ATS sources (dofollow), Shehzad had traveled to Pakistan several times—each visit further tightening his links to ISI agents.

This wasn’t a one-man act. Shehzad reportedly helped others from Rampur and nearby areas travel to Pakistan, pretending it was for trade. In reality, many of these men were recruited for ISI-linked activities.

He also sent Indian SIM cards across the border and moved funds to ISI contacts inside India. Police suspect these were used to plan or coordinate anti-India operations. His job wasn’t just to leak intel—he was helping Pakistan build a mini-network inside our country.

Shehzad had been on the radar of the UP ATS due to strong intelligence inputs. The final tip came from a joint surveillance effort involving central agencies. His regular travel history, shady transactions, and cross-border links finally added up to a case too loud to ignore.

He was arrested under Sections 148 and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, India’s new criminal code. He has been presented before a magistrate, and further investigations are underway.

A Larger Crackdown

Shehzad’s arrest isn’t a one-off. In recent weeks, several social media influencers, YouTubers, and other individuals across India have been picked up for similar offenses. It’s a reminder that the enemy doesn’t always come in camo—they might arrive with an Instagram handle or a spice shipment.

What’s at Stake?

National security is not just a military job. It starts with alert local policing and ends with every citizen staying aware. When spies are hiding in plain sight, pretending to sell lipsticks while leaking secrets, we need to ask—how many more like Shehzad are out there?

And perhaps more importantly—who’s helping them from this side?
