Virat Kohli is known for many things—but predicting the future might now be added to the list! A tweet he posted seven years ago about South African cricketer Aiden Markram has resurfaced and is going viral.
Back in 2018, Kohli tweeted, “Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!” after Markram impressed with an 84-run innings against Australia in Cape Town. Fast forward to now, Markram scored a brilliant century (102 not out) in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, helping South Africa come close to winning their first ICC title in nearly 30 years.

South Africa is chasing 282 runs to win against Australia and become WTC champions. Thanks to Markram and his solid partnership with Temba Bavuma (143* runs together), the team is now just 69 runs away from victory, with eight wickets still in hand. If they win, it will be their first ICC trophy since the 1998 Champions Trophy.
Kohli’s admiration for South African cricketers is not new. He has a close friendship with AB de Villiers from their time together at RCB. He also picked Faf du Plessis as the one player from another team he’d want in his side during the 2019 ODI World Cup. Later, RCB even made du Plessis captain after Kohli stepped down.
Markram, who started his international career in 2017, now seems to be another South African player admired by Kohli. His current performance, especially the century at Lord’s, proves Kohli’s old praise was well deserved.
Even though Kohli didn’t actually “predict” the future, fans are now calling his old tweet a sign of great cricketing insight.
