India’s fast bowler Ishant Sharma shared some memories about his longtime friend and teammate Virat Kohli. Ishant said that to him, Virat will always be “Cheeku,” which is Virat’s nickname from their childhood.
Ishant and Virat have known each other since they played together in Delhi’s under-17 and under-19 cricket teams. Ishant said that even though Virat is now a big star, he still sees him as the same person he grew up with.

“When we were in the under-19 team, we used to count how much money we had. We ate simple food and saved our travel money,” Ishant said. “Virat is different for everyone, but for me, he is like a brother.”

Ishant also said that despite Virat’s fame, their friendship stayed strong and close. “Imagine your brother has become very famous. Everyone thinks he’s great, but you know him inside and out because you spent so much time together,” he said.
The two friends were recently seen hugging during an IPL match, and pictures of that moment became very popular.
Ishant said when they meet, they don’t talk much about cricket or how many matches they have played. Instead, they joke and laugh a lot. “We talk about funny things, not cricket,” he said.

He also shared a funny story about when Virat told him he got selected for the Indian team. Virat kicked him and said, “Your name is in the team!” Ishant replied, “Brother, let me sleep.”
Both Ishant and Virat started playing for India around the same time, with Ishant debuting just before Virat.
