Ravichandran Ashwin, the veteran Indian spinner, found himself in the spotlight again—but not for the reasons he’d hoped. During a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match, Ashwin was left fuming after being given out LBW by a female umpire, and his animated reaction is now doing the rounds online.
Ashwin, who’s currently leading Dindigul Dragons, was opening the innings against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. After a brisk start, scoring 18 off 11 balls, he attempted a sweep against Sai Kishore and missed. The ball struck his pads, and the umpire raised her finger instantly. The call didn’t sit well with Ashwin.

Ashwin’s reaction wasn’t subtle. He walked straight to the umpire, visibly upset, arguing the decision. While the umpire remained calm and unmoved, Ashwin made his displeasure clear, even banging his bat against his pads as he walked off. The moment captured the tension—and quickly went viral.

IPL Struggles, TNPL Frustration
Ashwin’s return to the TNPL comes after a forgettable IPL 2025 season. Playing for Chennai Super Kings, he featured in just 9 of the 14 games, took only 7 wickets, and scored 33 runs. CSK finished dead last in the standings.
On the other hand, Sai Kishore, who dismissed Ashwin, had a strong IPL with Gujarat Titans, picking up 19 wickets in 15 matches. That form has clearly followed him into the TNPL.
Ashwin: From Calm Strategist to Fiery Competitor
Fans know Ashwin as a tactician, a deep thinker of the game. But moments like these remind us that he wears his heart on his sleeve. His frustration wasn’t just about one call—it was a reflection of recent setbacks, missed chances, and the ever-present pressure to perform.
Whether the LBW was rightly given or not, what stood out was Ashwin’s intense passion. Even after years in international cricket, he’s still all in—and that’s both admirable and controversial.
