External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made strong remarks on Thursday about the deadly Pahalgam attack that took 26 innocent lives. Speaking during his visit to Denmark, he directly blamed Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s extreme religious outlook as the root cause behind this barbaric act.
The attack in Pahalgam wasn’t just an act of terror — it was a calculated attempt to destroy tourism and create religious discord in India. Jaishankar pointed out that the terrorists checked the faith of their victims before killing them. This shows the brutal intent: to divide India on religious lines.

“You have a Pakistani army chief driven by an extreme religious outlook, so some connect with views expressed and conduct,” Jaishankar said. His statement links the extremist mindset at the top of Pakistan’s military to the dangerous violence spilling into India.
The Pahalgam attack is a grim reminder that terrorism still threatens India’s security and its people’s safety. But it also shows India’s resilience. Jaishankar’s visit to Denmark highlights that India is not alone. Countries worldwide stand with India in fighting terror.

Pakistan’s Military and the Two-Nation Theory
Adding fuel to the fire, just a week before the attack, General Asim Munir gave a provocative speech endorsing the two-nation theory. He claimed that India and Pakistan are fundamentally different because of religion, culture, and ambitions. This outdated, divisive idea forms the basis for continuing hostility.
In a surprising move, Pakistan recently promoted General Munir to Field Marshal—a rank rarely given and usually symbolic of high honor. This shows Pakistan’s military is doubling down on leaders who push extremist views rather than promoting peace.
For India, it is clear: the extremist mindset in Pakistan’s army, embodied by Munir, is a major hurdle to any peaceful relations.

On a different note, Jaishankar addressed the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He clarified that the ceasefire was directly negotiated between the two countries through a hotline, not because of outside mediation.
Responding to claims by former US President Donald Trump that he helped broker the truce, Jaishankar’s sharp reply was, “US was in the United States.” A polite way to say India and Pakistan settled their issues on their own terms, without foreign interference.
India’s response to the Pahalgam attack has been strong and clear. The government is committed to fighting terrorism with full force. Jaishankar’s visit to Denmark and the appreciation for their support show India’s growing global partnership against terror.
Despite provocations, India remains steadfast. The Pahalgam attack may have been meant to shake India’s spirit, but it only strengthened the country’s resolve.
