India’s Olympic hero Neeraj Chopra has postponed his upcoming javelin event—the Neeraj Chopra Classic—scheduled for May 24 in Bengaluru. The decision comes as India and Pakistan escalate to their worst cross-border conflict in nearly 30 years.
The meet, a World Athletics Gold-level event, was expected to feature top global throwers like Anderson Peters, Julius Yego, Thomas Roehler, and Curtis Thompson.

But with the current military situation, Chopra’s team announced the postponement “after careful thought and consultation,” adding that “the well-being of athletes, stakeholders, and the broader community” was the top priority.

In a strong post on social media, Chopra’s team wrote, “We believe in the unifying power of sport. But in this critical moment, standing firm with the nation matters most.” The tone was serious, patriotic, and unapologetic.
And rightly so. This is not about skipping a tournament. It’s about showing that India’s athletes don’t live in bubbles—they stand with the nation when it matters most.
Chopra had earlier said that Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, a top rival and Olympic gold contender, was “completely out of the question” for this meet after a brutal terror attack in Kashmir. India responded by striking targets across the border, saying they were terrorist camps backed by Islamabad—a claim Pakistan denies. But with drones, missiles, and bloodshed now replacing diplomatic talks, Chopra’s call to pause sport makes moral sense.
The new schedule for the event will be shared later. For now, Chopra’s stance has struck a deeper chord with the Indian public—sports can wait, security cannot.
Neeraj Chopra may throw javelins for medals, but this time, he’s thrown a message for the world: India stands united. No event, no handshake, no PR moment is bigger than the nation’s dignity.
