Microsoft has rolled out the first look at its next big update for Windows 11, called version 25H2. Right now, this update is only available to users who are part of the Windows Insider Program.

In a blog post, Microsoft said that Windows 11 version 25H2 is now available for testing by the Insider community before its full release, which is planned for the second half of 2025.

What’s New in the 25H2 Update?

  • The update file is 40% smaller than the last version, which means it should download and install faster.
  • Microsoft is introducing a shared servicing process that uses the same method as monthly updates. This allows bigger updates to install more easily and quickly, often with just one restart. This is called “feature updates via servicing”, and it uses a special update file called an enablement package (eKB).
  • Also, this version resets the support timeline:
    • Enterprise and Education editions will get 36 months of support.
    • Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstation editions will get 24 months of support.

The company also shared that Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 are built on the same base code, which helps in smoother updates and better compatibility.

  2. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  3. Check for updates and download the new version.

Full Release Coming Soon

While this 25H2 version is still in the testing stage, Microsoft will start rolling out the Windows 11 24H2 update to all users from October 1, 2025.
