Yuzvendra Chahal made history during Punjab Kings’ thrilling 16-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Mullanpur. It was a special night for Chahal as he equaled two big records held by Sunil Narine and became the first Indian player to achieve those milestones in IPL history.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) were bowled out for just 111 runs — the lowest total ever defended in IPL. Despite the low score, PBKS fought back, thanks to a brilliant performance by Chahal.
The match looked in KKR’s favour early on, especially after Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi built a solid partnership. But everything changed when Chahal was brought into the attack in the 8th over.
The experienced spinner first dismissed Rahane for 17, then got Raghuvanshi out at the start of the next over. In the 12th over, he struck twice — removing Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh in back-to-back balls. Chahal finished with incredible figures of 4 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs and was rightly named Player of the Match.

Yuzvendra Chahal Equals Sunil Narine’s Record
This was Chahal’s eighth time taking four or more wickets in an IPL match, which puts him level with KKR star Sunil Narine. Both spinners now have seven four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul in the IPL.
Among Indian bowlers, Amit Mishra follows with five such performances. Chahal is also the first Indian to take four or more wickets three times against the same team — KKR. He had previously done it while playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2022 and 2023. Narine is the only other player to do this, having taken four wickets three times against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Chahal, who was bought by PBKS for a whopping Rs. 18 crore in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction in Jeddah, had only taken 2 wickets in 5 games before this match. But this stunning performance reminded everyone why he is one of the best.

Chahal – IPL’s Leading Wicket-Taker
Yuzvendra Chahal is now the highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 211 wickets. He is also the only player with over 200 wickets in the league. Impressively, he holds the record for being the top wicket-taker for two IPL teams — RCB and Rajasthan Royals.
This match proved why Yuzvendra Chahal is considered one of the most successful and consistent bowlers in IPL history.
