Zeekr has just announced the world’s first 1,200 kW ultra-fast EV charger, surpassing the 1,000 kW charging system introduced by BYD last month. BYD’s charger was already a big deal, claiming to add 400 km of range in just 5 minutes, which is about the same time it takes to fuel a regular car. Now, Zeekr is taking things a step further with its 1,200 kW charging station that will use liquid cooling.
Zeekr made the announcement at the EV100 Forum in Beijing, with Zhao Yuhui, the company’s Vice President, sharing the news. This new charging system will deliver the highest peak power per plug and marks the beginning of Megawatt charging for electric vehicles.

Zeekr is already running 1,500 charging stations in China and plans to grow its network to over 10,000 by the end of next year. The company started operations in 2021 and is part of the Geely Holding Group. Zeekr’s electric SUV, the Zeekr 7X, will also be coming to Australia in late 2025, and it already charges faster than any other EV on the market today, taking under 10 minutes to reach a significant charge.
In a test by a YouTuber named Kyle, the Zeekr Power charger provided speeds of up to 470 kW, charging the car from 0-70% in under 10 minutes. Even when the battery was 80% full, the charger still provided 250 kW speeds, which is pretty impressive.

The new Zeekr 1,200 kW charger will be ready for use in the second quarter of 2025 and will officially launch with plans to expand globally, starting with Australia. This innovation is a big step forward for electric vehicle charging, and it’s expected that one day, charging an EV might be as fast as filling up a regular car with fuel.
