Rohit Sharma led from the front with a crucial 76-run knock, guiding India to a record third Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final on Sunday. India has now surpassed Australia’s two titles, cementing its legacy as the most successful team in Champions Trophy history.

Match Highlights:

  • India’s Chase: Set a target of 252, India got off to a blazing start, thanks to Rohit’s first half-century of the tournament.
  • Composed Finish: KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 34, steering India to victory with six balls to spare.
  • Unbeaten Streak: India remained undefeated throughout the eight-nation tournament.

Rohit Sharma on Retirement:

As soon as Rohit entered the post-match press conference, the inevitable question about his future arose. With his trademark calmness, he dismissed speculation, stating:

“Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega” (No future plan, whatever is happening will continue).

“I am not going to retire from this format.”

Reflecting on his batting approach, Rohit emphasized team success over personal achievements:

“I scored heavily in the 2019 World Cup but maza nahi aaya… team didn’t win. When the team wins, and you contribute, it brings satisfaction.

Rohit Sharma – Player of the Match & Leader of Triumphs:

76 runs off 83 balls – A captain’s knock when it mattered the most. Second ICC Trophy as Captain – Following India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 victory. India’s Unbeaten Run – Dominating the Champions Trophy without a single loss.

With this monumental win, India reaffirms its dominance in world cricket, making history once again!
