Infibeam Avenues Joins Hands with IISc Bangalore to Build Deepfake Detection Systems

Infibeam Avenues has signed an important agreement with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, one of the world’s top research universities, to develop advanced deepfake detection technology. This partnership aims to create real-time tools that help governments, businesses, and organizations fight the growing threat of AI-generated fake content.

Deepfake technology is becoming more advanced and can create highly realistic but fake videos and images. These can be used to spread misinformation, commit fraud, and damage reputations. They pose serious risks to individuals, companies, and even government institutions.

A recent example of the dangers of deepfakes happened in January 2024 when a multinational company in Hong Kong lost around $25 million (Rs 207 crore) in a scam. Fraudsters used deepfake technology to impersonate company executives in a video call, tricking employees into transferring money before realizing it was a scam. As part of the agreement, Infibeam Avenues’ AI division, Phronetic.AI, will work with IISc experts to create deepfake detection systems specifically for real-time video communication. Their goal is to develop accurate, fast, and cost-effective solutions that can be used on a large scale.
