Brad Pitt Faces Lawsuit Over Faulty Homes for Katrina Victims

Homeowners in New Orleans, who received houses built by Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation after Hurricane Katrina, are suing the actor and his nonprofit. They claim the homes were poorly built and are now falling apart. The case recently took a big step forward when a court ordered the foundation to hand over important documents.

Pitt Tries to Avoid Deposition

According to The US Sun, Pitt has been trying to avoid giving a deposition (a formal statement under oath) in the lawsuit. He argued that his busy movie schedule would be disrupted if he had to testify. His legal team also said that traveling for the deposition would be expensive and time-consuming, as he will be working in Europe for the next several months.

However, in June 2024, the judge decided that this request was not relevant at the moment since the discovery process (gathering evidence) was still ongoing.

New Updates in the Case

The legal team for Make It Right has asked for more time to go through the foundation’s documents. They revealed that there are about 195 boxes, 13 filing cabinets, a computer server, and 13 desktops and laptops filled with records, taking up three rooms.

So far, the homeowners’ lawyers have received 70,000 documents and 30,000 pages of financial records from the foundation. They are now working with forensic accountants, architects, and engineers to strengthen their case.

A court meeting is scheduled for next month, and the legal battle is expected to continue for some time.
