Russia’s Largest Drone Attack Yet Hits Ukraine—Just Hours After U.S. Brokered ‘Pause’ Deal

As the world watches, Russia unleashes its biggest drone attack yet—but why now, and what’s next?

In the early hours of March 26, Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine, targeting the Mykolaiy region and Kryvyi Rih. Ukrainian officials called it the biggest drone assault on Kryvyi Rih since the war began.

The mayor of Mykolaiy reported emergency power outages, though it’s unclear if they were precautionary or a direct result of the attack. Meanwhile, in Kryvyi Rih, drones ignited fires and damaged buildings. Thankfully, no deaths were reported.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down 56 of 117 drones, while electronic warfare redirected 48 others. Russia, however, claimed it destroyed nine Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea.

Just a day before, the U.S. brokered deals with both sides to pause attacks over the Black Sea and on energy targets. Yet, the timing of this assault raises questions—was it a violation or a signal?

What’s Next?

With no immediate comment from Russia, the world waits to see if this escalation derails peace efforts. For now, Ukraine stands resilient, but the stakes grow higher.
