Sunita Williams Plans India Visit to Meet ISRO’s Astronauts

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams is planning to visit India soon to meet the ISRO team. She is excited to visit her father’s homeland and share her space experiences.

In a news conference after returning from her space mission, Williams said, “I’m sure I’ll be going back to my father’s home country. I’m excited to meet the Indian astronauts who are going on the upcoming ISRO mission.”

On March 19, Williams, along with fellow astronauts Nick Hague, Butch Wilmore, and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, returned to Earth after spending over nine months in space. Their stay on the International Space Station (ISS) was extended due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

Williams praised India’s progress in space exploration and expressed her enthusiasm about meeting ISRO’s team. She also mentioned that India’s space sector is growing, and she looks forward to sharing her space journey with the people of India.

“India is a great country and a wonderful democracy. I would love to meet people there and share our experiences,” she said.

She also talked about bringing her crew to India, jokingly mentioning that they would need to get ready for some spicy food. “We’ll get them all primed with some spicy food, and they’ll be good,” she added.

Sunita Williams Shares Her View of India from Space

During her time in space, Williams had the chance to observe India from above and was amazed by the view, especially when flying over the Himalayas.

She explained how the collision of tectonic plates created the Himalayas and shaped India’s landscape. “Every time we went over the Himalayas, we got incredible pictures. It was amazing to see how the mountains form such a beautiful ripple down into India,” she said.

Williams also talked about India’s diverse geography, from the towering Himalayas to the busy coastal cities. “The fishing fleet near Gujarat and Mumbai was like a beacon that said, ‘Here we come!’ when flying over,” she said.
