Ishant Sharma Faces Fine and Demerit Point After GT’s Win Against SRH in IPL 2025

The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season has been full of excitement and unexpected twists. The Gujarat Titans, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, have been on a roll, securing victories and climbing up the points table. Their most recent win came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a thrilling match that left fans on the edge of their seats. However, the celebrations were slightly dampened by a development that raised eyebrows across the cricketing world.

Ishant Sharma’s Fine and Demerit Points

While the Titans’ performance on the field was stellar, with captain Shubman Gill leading the chase with a brilliant 60 not out, there was an unexpected turn of events involving pacer Ishant Sharma. He was fined 25% of his match fees and given one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The breach occurred during his team’s match against SRH.

According to the BCCI’s official statement, Ishant admitted to the violation, which fell under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This article pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground fixtures, or any action that damages the playing field or other fixtures. In Ishant’s case, the breach was related to actions outside normal cricketing conduct, which led to the fine and demerit point. It’s important to note that for such violations, the Match Referee’s decision is final.

Gujarat Titans’ Strong Performance

Despite the setback with Ishant Sharma, the Gujarat Titans were the dominant team in the match. The bowling attack, led by Mohd. Siraj, restricted SRH to just 152/8 in their allotted overs. Siraj’s outstanding performance, which included a career-best 4-17, earned him the Player of the Match award. His efforts helped the Titans maintain control over the game from the very beginning.

Ishant, on the other hand, had a difficult outing. He went wicketless and conceded 53 runs in his four-over spell, making him the most expensive bowler for the Titans in the match. Despite his struggles, the team managed to stay focused and complete the job.

Shubman Gill Leads the Chase

With 153 runs required for victory, Gujarat Titans’ chase was in safe hands. Shubman Gill once again displayed his brilliance, scoring an unbeaten 60 runs off 42 balls. His calm and composed knock guided the team through the chase. Alongside him, Washington Sundar and Sherfane Rutherford played key roles in ensuring that the Titans finished the game with 20 deliveries to spare, completing a comfortable seven-wicket victory.

This victory marked a hat-trick of wins for the Gujarat Titans, boosting them to second place in the IPL 2025 points table. While the team’s performance on the field was exceptional, the incident with Ishant Sharma has certainly caught the attention of cricket fans and experts alike.

What’s Next for Gujarat Titans?

As the season progresses, Gujarat Titans will look to build on their strong form and continue their push for a spot in the playoffs. However, Ishant Sharma’s fine and demerit point serve as a reminder that even the best players are not immune to the strict regulations of the IPL. It will be interesting to see if this incident has any long-term impact on the team’s morale or if they can continue their winning streak.

For now, the Titans can take solace in their dominant performance over SRH and their rise in the points table. They’ll be hoping that no further controversies disrupt their campaign, and their focus remains on lifting the IPL 2025 trophy.
