Punjab Kings' IPL 2025 Playoff Chances After KKR Match Washout

The important IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) had to be called off due to rain. KKR had started chasing PBKS’s score of 201/4, but they could only play one over before the rain stopped the game. The match was abandoned at 10:59 PM, before the cutoff time of 11:44 PM. Both teams were given 1 point each. Because of this, Punjab Kings moved up to 4th place in the points table, while KKR stayed in 7th.

Punjab Kings’ Playoff Chances

  • Matches Played: 9
  • Won: 5
  • Lost: 3
  • No Result (NR): 1
  • Points: 11
  • Position: 4th

Net Run Rate Punjab Kings have the lowest net run rate (+0.177) among the top 5 teams. This might not be important unless Kolkata Knight Riders finish with the same number of points. KKR’s current net run rate is +0.212.

Remaining Matches Punjab Kings still have 5 games to play:

  1. Away vs Chennai Super Kings – April 30
  2. Home vs Lucknow Super Giants – May 4
  3. Home vs Delhi Capitals – May 8
  4. Home vs Mumbai Indians – May 11
  5. Away vs Rajasthan Royals – May 16

Easy Away Games Punjab’s two away games are against the 9th and 10th placed teams, so they have a good chance of winning these.

Home Games Against Tough Competitors At home, Punjab will play against Lucknow Super Giants, whom they’ve already beaten, and face Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians for the first time this season. Mumbai is on a four-game winning streak, while Delhi has been consistent this season.

Punjab Kings’ Qualification Scenario If Punjab Kings win 4 of their remaining 5 games, they will reach 19 points. This will be enough for them to stay ahead of both Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, who are tied with 10 points. If Punjab wins 4 games, they will qualify for the playoffs, regardless of what happens in other matches.
