Vance’s Pakistan Stance: Is America Still Playing Softball With Terror?

Another terror attack. Another American statement. And once again—no spine.

This time, it’s Vance—the US Vice President—offering his take after the Pahalgam terror strike in Kashmir where 26 Indians were slaughtered. What did he say? That both India and Pakistan should “avoid escalation.” That Pakistan must “act” against terrorism.

Seriously? That’s the line after our people are killed by terrorists we all know came from across the border?

As an Indian, I’ve heard this script too many times. And every time, it feels like the world is more interested in managing Pakistan’s ego than mourning Indian lives.

We Bleed. They Advise “Balance.”

When something explodes on Indian soil, global leaders rush to express “concern” without calling out the obvious culprit. No names. No consequences. Just polite talk.

This isn’t diplomacy. It’s denial.

And this time, Vance’s words—calm, calculated, and utterly tone-deaf—hit a raw nerve.

Who Is America Protecting?

It’s no secret: Pakistan harbors terror groups. From Osama bin Laden found in Abbottabad to Hafiz Saeed addressing rallies in Lahore, the evidence is overwhelming. And yet, Pakistan is still treated like a misunderstood ally.

The US has long claimed to be fighting a “global war on terror.” But when the victims are Indian, and the terrorists are Pakistani, that war suddenly turns into quiet mediation.

Why? Strategic interests? China? Afghanistan? Elections?

As Indians, we don’t have the luxury of such excuses. We live with the threat. We bury the dead. We rebuild. And then we’re told not to “overreact.”

Yet, year after year, US aid flows to Islamabad. Condemnations are vague. Sanctions are rare. And accountability? Deferred indefinitely.

A 2021 report by the US Congressional Research Service even acknowledged Pakistan’s “selective cooperation” on terrorism.

Vance’s Statement Isn’t Just Weak—It’s Offensive

Let’s be blunt: what Vance said wasn’t neutral—it was negligent.

If you can’t name the attacker, you’re not neutral. You’re blindfolding yourself.

What message does that send to Pakistan? That they can keep funding and sheltering terrorists without facing international heat?

And what message does it send to India? That our pain is negotiable?

India Won’t Be Gaslit Anymore

We’re not asking the US to go to war for us. We’re asking them to be honest.

Say what’s true: Pakistan is the epicenter of cross-border terrorism. And if the US truly values its relationship with India, it needs to stop treating Islamabad like a fragile partner and start treating it like a responsible state.

Words matter. Silence matters even more. Vance’s carefully worded ambiguity says a lot—just not to the people who lost their loved ones in Kashmir.

India Doesn’t Need Permission to Defend Itself

The US can play chess with Pakistan all it wants. But India will do what it must.

Whether it was Balakot, Uri, or surgical strikes, we’ve shown we don’t wait for permission slips. We respond. Precisely. Proudly.

And this time, too, we will.
