Three terrorists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, early this morning. The encounter happened in the Nader and Tral areas of Awantipora, located in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

According to reports, the terrorists were hiding in a house and were quickly neutralized by the joint team of the police and the army. This marks the second major encounter in the last two days.
Just two days earlier, on May 13, another encounter took place. It began in Kulgam and later moved to a forest area in Shopian. Security forces acted on an intelligence input and managed to kill three terrorists after a heavy exchange of fire.
The Indian Army shared on social media that the operation in Shopian was based on a tip-off received by a Rashtriya Rifles unit. The terrorists opened heavy fire, leading to a fierce battle, and were eventually killed. The operation is still ongoing.
These operations are part of a larger crackdown on terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, especially after the deadly Pahalgam attack on April 22 that killed 26 people.
In response to that attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This led to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, with both sides carrying out strikes.

Although a ceasefire agreement was announced on May 10, meant to stop all military actions by 5 PM that day, Pakistan reportedly broke the agreement within a few hours.
