External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans in The Hague to discuss growing security challenges and deepen bilateral defence cooperation.

This visit marks an important step in India’s strategic outreach in Europe, coming just weeks after India’s decisive action against terrorism in Pakistan and POJK.

Jaishankar’s talks with Brekelmans are not just another diplomatic meeting. For ordinary Indians, it signals a strong message: the world recognises India’s firm stance against terror and values India as a vital security partner.

This is part of Jaishankar’s three-nation tour covering the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany. In The Hague, Jaishankar also held talks with Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp.

Their discussions ranged from security challenges to how India and the EU can boost their partnership in a complex, multi-polar world.

Jaishankar’s visit follows soon after India’s military strikes in Pakistan — a swift and bold response to terrorist attacks like the Pahalgam incident.

The Netherlands has openly condemned that attack and supports India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. This solidarity means a lot and strengthens our global position.

The Netherlands’ Defence Minister underscored that “close cooperation with India is more important than ever” in these “turbulent times.” It’s refreshing to see India’s tough moves gaining international support.

In these turbulent times close cooperation with India is more important than ever.

Great honour to receive Minister of Foreign Affairs @DrSJaishankar. We discuss security challenges in Asia/Europe and our Defence partnership.

Looking forward to deepening our cooperation! 🇳🇱🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/b1g20LmTgW

Operation Sindoor: What’s Next?

During the visit, Jaishankar is expected to brief officials about Operation Sindoor — India’s calculated response to the Pahalgam terror strike. This operation showed the world that India will not tolerate terror on its soil, and will respond firmly and decisively.

Building Stronger Bonds

Besides defence, the talks also focused on expanding India-Netherlands ties beyond security. Jaishankar and Brekelmans discussed economic cooperation and collaboration within the EU framework.

The Indian diaspora in The Hague also got a chance to interact with Jaishankar, highlighting the growing influence and respect for India abroad.

Our firm stance against terrorism is gaining acceptance, even among European nations like the Netherlands, who see India as a reliable partner in maintaining global peace.

This is not the time for half-measures or diplomatic sugarcoating. Jaishankar’s tour sends a clear signal: India is serious, strong, and ready to lead in global security cooperation.
