Drone Sightings Over Kolkata: Defence Ministry Responds

Several drone-like objects were spotted at night flying over well-known areas in Kolkata, such as Hastings, Vidyasagar Setu, Park Circus, and Maidan. This caught the attention of both the state and central governments.

According to reports, about 8 to 10 unmanned flying objects were seen hovering near Hastings Police Station, Park Circus, the Second Hooghly Bridge (also called Vidyasagar Setu), and near Fort William, which is the Indian Army’s Eastern Command headquarters.

The police said these drones seemed to be coming from the direction of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas. Officials are investigating the situation carefully, including the possibility that these drones might be used for spying.

The Defence Ministry, however, has asked everyone not to jump to conclusions. They said they are checking if the reports are true and warned that the sightings could be a hoax.

A senior West Bengal government official said the central government has asked for an official report about these drone sightings.

The Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) and Detective Department have started an investigation. Police are looking into every possibility, including espionage.

The drones were seen briefly over Park Circus before disappearing.
