Delhi Reports 294 Active Covid-19 Cases and 1 Death

Delhi has reported 294 active Covid-19 cases and one death, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). This is an increase of 56 cases since yesterday. The reported death was of a 60-year-old woman who had intestinal surgery. Covid-19 was found incidentally during her treatment.

Delhi Government Issues Advisory

On May 23, the Delhi Government asked all hospitals to be prepared. Hospitals have been advised to make sure they have enough beds, oxygen, important medicines, ventilators, and BiPAP machines.

No Need to Panic

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said people should not panic. “Hospitals are ready, and we are keeping a close watch on the situation. There is no emergency. We have issued guidelines and everything is under control,” she said.

New Covid Variants Detected

The recent rise in cases in some Indian states is believed to be linked to two new Covid variants: NB.1.8.1 and LF.7. These have mutated from older strains of the virus.

These variants are being watched by health officials. The World Health Organization (WHO) has called them “Variants Under Monitoring”, not “Variants of Concern.” Many states have issued safety advisories to deal with the rising cases.
