Virat Kohli Wins First IPL Title After 12 Years: Sehwag’s Praise

Virat Kohli finally won his first IPL trophy on Tuesday night when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Punjab Kings by six runs. Kohli has played for only one team, RCB, since the IPL started in 2008. Before this win, he had lost three IPL finals. In the final match, Kohli scored 43 runs from 35 balls, helping RCB reach a total of 190 runs in 20 overs.

After the win, former India opener Virender Sehwag praised Kohli and compared his wait for a trophy to the long wait Sachin Tendulkar had for an ODI World Cup win. Sehwag said Kohli waited 12 years for this IPL title, while Tendulkar waited from 1989 until 2011 to win a World Cup. Even though it took a long time, Tendulkar never gave up hope and wanted to retire only after winning a World Cup.

Sehwag said Kohli can now feel happy and proud, and if he decides to stop playing IPL, he can do so without any regrets. Winning trophies is hard, and money is not the main thing for players — winning is.
