Trump Deploys 2,000 Troops to LA Amid ICE Protest Chaos

The Trump administration has sent 2,000 National Guard soldiers to Los Angeles after protests over immigration raids by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) became more intense.

These raids, which began on Friday, led to 118 arrests. One major arrest happened at a warehouse where officials say the employer used fake documents for some workers. Protesters say ICE is using too much force and spreading fear in immigrant communities.

The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle.

Don’t give them one.

Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.

— Governor Gavin Newsom (@CAgovernor) June 8, 2025

  • Governor Newsom’s Response: California Governor Gavin Newsom strongly opposed this action. He said it would only make the situation worse and that LA already has enough law enforcement support. He believes the deployment of troops will damage public trust.
  • Trump’s Comments: Trump criticized California’s Governor Gavin Newsom and LA’s Mayor Karen Bass, saying they failed to control the riots and looting. He said the federal government had to step in to fix the situation.
  • ICE and Trump Officials Defend the Move: ICE officials and Trump’s border advisor said the National Guard is being deployed to make the city safer. They claim their actions are necessary for public safety and security.
